Before & After!!

I must say… I am surprised at just how much freaked better Nicole looks with her hair & makeup done!! This is quite the makeover! WOW! She looks incredible actually.

I took the “after” photo with natural light, standing at the entrance of a large loading dock door and dark warehouse in the back. We were in the shaded part of the building with no direct sun - but it was a really bright day. I am thrilled with how it turned out.

What a cool scene! I was riding in a taxi, stopped in traffic and looked over into a store and saw this unusual group of guys just hanging out. A guy playing a trumpet, another guy working on some wood, a sleeping dog…? I love this shot - made possible do to the Leica 50mm Noctulux-M f/1.0.

Night photography in Mexico using the Leica insanely fast lens - the 50mm Noctilux-M f/1.0. This was REALLY dark out, hand held at 1/30th of a second, f/1.0, 400 ISO film. Crazy that I got any shot at all.

4x5 Film

On my Flickr site I have this shot in Polaroid… this one is film. I like the character of the Polaroid, but this is much better in my opinion! So much more detail and dynamic range, contrast! Plus, I like the way this one is composed and I didn’t overdue the tilt shift like I did the other one.

8x10 - Adam Fraser

My first ever official photo shoot with the 8x10 camera!! Lots to learn, but a wicked fun experience! I was totally guessing at everything… I have no experience with how the depth of field works at 8x10 and a 330mm lens sitting around 10 or so feet away at f8. I am sure a year from now I will look back at these shots and think they are so weak, but for now…. I am stoked!

Adam is a friend of mine, a fellow photographer with swagger! He showed up and I was very happy to see the wicked outfit!

Road Signs!! Beware of drunks crawling across the roads!!! Literally this was a highway sign in Honduras! LOL.

Rob Hann - NYC

Pentax LX + 50mm Super-Takumar

I met Rob last week walking around the Soho district in NYC. Robb is a film photographer as well - we had fun talking about the different cameras we like to shoot with. He was kind enough to let me take his portrait.

I don’t know why… I just think the laundromat mats are so cool looking? They feel somehow like a time-warp to the 1960’s or something? I love the dirty petina everywhere, everything is well worn. I also like the crappy quality of the light and the blue/green hue from the florescent lights.

Speed Graphic - Instant Film
I don’t know why I don’t pull this cool old camera out more often. Taken with a Speed Graphic 4x5 large format camera… and I think it was with my 178mm f/2.5 Kodak Aero Ektar lens? Got a little tilt shift going on…and unfrotuantly I was too high and cut off their feet. How the hell did I miss that. None the less, I like the old world charm of this shot. Little buddies out back “Taking Shots”…. its so Canadian.

Quiet little Rolleiflex!!
This guy saw my Rolleiflex, but because I don’t have to lift the camera to my face… it didn’t occur to him I was taking his photo! I find it so hard to be discrete when doing street photography… even with the infamously “inconspicuous” Leica rangefinder. But with a TLR camera… people always look at the cool camera, but never know I am capturing the shot.
I love the monochrome look to this shot!! Soho NYC.

Tysean

Ok, this was most certainly one of the coolest guys in Soho!!! I saw him and just freaked knew I had to get him to let me take his photo. He was with a bunch of his buddies and I didn’t know how cool he would be with some other dude coming up and saying I want to take your photo. But no worries. Thanks Tysean… this is one of my favourite all time portraits!!!
Left all the dust & scratches… thought it added to the authenticity of the shot! No need to clean it up in my mind.
